Kraig Kottemann, class of 2007, recently received recognition for achieving the highest score on part one of the National Board of Dental Examination given this past July. He is the first recipient of a new inaugural award given by local practitioner Tony Hashemian, D.D.S.
The Dr. Tony Hashemian Award of Excellence is given to the ASDOH students who obtain the highest score on part one and also on part two of the national examination.
“It is my hope and intention in establishing and providing the awards to build enthusiasm and encourage ASDOH students to excel on the dental foard examinations,” explained Dr. Hashemian who is president of Classic Dental with office locations in Scottsdale, Mesa, Sun City and Phoenix. “The dental board examination for students at ASDOH is a challenge since they take their part one examination in their first year of study whereas students at most other schools take part one of the examination during their second year. The Award will recognize excellence and promote an environment where students strive to exceed expectations on the board examinations.”
Kottemann received the award including a commemorative plaque and a $2,000 scholarship at a ceremony at the Mesa Campus during a Friday ASDOH Grand Rounds session held for first- and second-year students.
“I am grateful to Dr. Hashemian and to the dean and faculty here at ASDOH for the award. It is an honor to be the first recipient of the Dr. Tony Hashemian Award of Excellence,” noted Kottemann, an alumnus of the University of Notre Dame and a native of Long Lake, Minn.
“We are very grateful to Dr. Hashemian for his initiative to recognize students at the nation’s newest dental school and for his tremendous support of both the school and students,” said Craig M. Phelps, D.O., FAOASM, provost, ASHS, ’84.
